The corners of your mouth
Take no pains to spread far and wide
Across the ocean, I sit
with my heart in my head
Puckered lips waiting for a kiss
The waves and the wind
offer no solace in turn
for a body torn in two.
Still, somewhere on this earth
violins weep, and the air holds its breath
as the world, unable to bear any more its own weight
in the company of a privileged chosen few
quietly heaves its last sigh.
